Small walk behind scythe
The shop is HS Hire in Teignmouth and it’s essentially a walk-behind unit that normally has a rotavator attached to it, but they swap it out for the scythe attachment. It’s small enough to fit in a panel van or on a trailer. It’s £50 a day/£60 for two days (as at August 2020), and not much more for a week.

Useful tip: It’s a good idea to soak the rake head in water for 10 minutes or so before raking in order to make the wood swell slightly. The teeth can sometimes drop out of their holes in the head when raking and get lost in amongst the raked hay. If you’re storing a rake in a dry shed etc it can lead to the teeth shrinking very slightly and becoming loose.
Traditional Hay Rakes
Beautiful, lightweight ash hayrakes make raking up the grass a joy. Made by Rudds in Cumbria, the last commercial hay rake maker in Britain.
