Open Meadows 2025

  • Date: 18 May 2025
  • Until: 1 September 2025

The majority of our Open Meadows are not typically open to the public, making this a unique opportunity to visit some of Devon’s most beautiful and diverse meadows. The meadows are open to all, and the vast majority are free to visit.

For anyone interested in creating their own meadow, this is also a fantastic chance to learn directly from meadow owners about how they’ve created and are managing their spaces. Many of the sites are offering guided walks, providing a first-hand look at the processes involved.

Each site offers something special, with a variety of landscapes to explore – from water meadows and moorland meadows to steep valley sites. Meadows are managed in different ways: some by individuals, others by communities, or as part of larger farming operations. The flora on display can range from plants that thrive in damp conditions to those that flourish in poor soil and full sun. Some meadows even include orchards or are managed traditionally for hay, including hand-cutting with a scythe.

If you’re a meadow owner and would like to open your meadow for the programme, we’d love to hear from you! Please email Alma Swan, the programme organiser, at: almaswan3@gmail.com.

We hope you take the time to visit and enjoy these wonderful gems of the Devon landscape.
